"A father isn't always the one who gives you life. Sometimes he's the one who teaches you how to live."
June arrived with pleasant mornings and cool breezes after the first spell of rain.
School had begun preparing small activities for Father's Day.
Students excitedly discussed gifts.
Some planned to buy watches.
Others wanted to take their fathers out for dinner.
During lunch break...
Siya noticed Aadhya quietly listening.
"You've become very quiet."
Aadhya smiled softly.
"I was just thinking..."
"This will be my first Father's Day."
Kiara smiled warmly.
"Then it has to be special."
Aadhya looked at them.
"I've never celebrated Father's Day before."
Not once in fifteen years.
There had never been a reason.
This year...
There was.
The three girls spent the next few days secretly planning.
Every afternoon after school...
They met in the art room.
Sheets of coloured paper.
Glue.
Photographs.
Handwritten notes.
Sketch pens.
Tiny dried flowers.
Everything slowly came together.
After hours of work...
A beautiful handmade scrapbook rested on the table.
Its cover was cream with blue floral designs.
In elegant handwriting...
Aadhya had written—
The Man Who Chose Me
Siya smiled.
"It's perfect."
Kiara gently turned the first page.
Page One
A hand-drawn sketch of an old neem tree.
Below it...
A single sentence.
"The day my life quietly changed forever."
Aadhya had drawn herself sitting beneath the tree at Nandini Children's Home, reading a worn-out novel.
Standing a little distance away...
A little boy smiled at her.
Vivaan.
Page Two
A carefully painted picture of Vikram kneeling in front of her at the orphanage.
Beside it...
She had written:
"Thank you for asking me one question that changed my entire life..."
"Would you like to come home with us?"
Page Three
A sketch of the grand Rathore Mansion.
Tiny handwritten words surrounded it.
"The first house where I was welcomed..."
"Not tolerated."
"Not judged."
"Welcomed."
Page Four
A drawing of the dining table.
Vikram smiling.
A frightened little girl standing nearby.
Beneath it...
"The first time someone told me..."
"You'll call me Papa."
Page Five
Photographs from the past few months.
Diwali.
Her first school day.
Movie night.
Learning to ride a bicycle.
Hospital recovery.
Student of the Year.
Family photographs.
Every page held tiny handwritten memories.
"You celebrated my birthday."
"You stayed awake during my fever."
"You believed in me before I believed in myself."
"You never let me feel alone."
The final page contained only a handwritten letter.
Dear Papa,
I used to think fathers were people children were born to.
Then I met you.
You taught me that fathers can also be people who choose to love a child with their whole heart.
Thank you for giving me a home.
Thank you for giving me brothers.
Thank you for teaching me that I never have to earn love.
You didn't just adopt me...
You accepted me.
And that has made all the difference.
Happy Father's Day.
Love,
Your daughter,
Aadhya ❤️
Siya quietly wiped away a tear.
Kiara smiled.
"If Uncle doesn't cry..."
"I will."
Aadhya laughed.
"I don't want Papa to cry."
Kiara raised an eyebrow.
"Trust me."
"He definitely will."
Father's Day arrived.
The mansion was still peaceful.
The clock read 6:15 a.m.
The sun had barely risen.
Aadhya quietly walked toward Vikram's study.
The scrapbook was carefully wrapped in blue paper.
She took a deep breath.
Then knocked softly.
"Come in."
Vikram looked up from the newspaper.
His face immediately brightened.
"Good morning, beta."
She smiled nervously.
"Good morning..."
For a moment...
She forgot everything she had rehearsed.
Then...
She walked over to him.
Held out the gift with both hands.
And softly said—
"Happy Father's Day..."
"...Papa."
For a heartbeat...
Vikram simply looked at her.
Then at the gift.
Then back at her.
A gentle smile spread across his face.
"Happy Father's Day..."
He paused with a chuckle.
"I suppose that's for me."
She nodded.
"I made it myself."
Before he could say another word...
Aadhya stepped forward.
Wrapped her arms around him.
And hugged him tightly.
It was the first Father's Day hug she had ever given.
Vikram slowly hugged her back.
His eyes became moist almost instantly.
He closed his eyes for a moment.
As though silently thanking fate.
A few seconds later...
Voices echoed from the hallway.
"Papa?"
"Where are you?"
The six brothers walked into the study.
They stopped at the doorway.
Vivaan grinned.
"I knew Twinny would wake up first."
Advik folded his arms dramatically.
"We've been defeated."
Vikram carefully opened the gift.
Everyone gathered around.
The room grew quieter with every page he turned.
He smiled at the orphanage sketch.
He laughed softly at the page about teaching her to call him "Papa."
He admired every drawing.
Every handwritten note.
Every carefully preserved memory.
Then...
He reached the final letter.
He read it silently.
Halfway through...
His vision blurred.
A tear slipped down his cheek.
Then another.
He gently closed the scrapbook against his chest.
Unable to speak.
Advik immediately pointed.
"Papa's crying!"
Vihaan laughed.
"I told you he would."
Vivaan grinned proudly.
"Our Papa cries the fastest."
Aryaveer smiled.
"Leave him alone."
Rudransh handed Vikram a handkerchief.
"You'll need this."
Even Veeransh smiled warmly.
Vikram looked at his sons.
"Oh..."
"So this is funny?"
Advik nodded innocently.
"Very."
Vikram chuckled through his tears.
Then looked at Aadhya.
His voice trembled.
"Today..."
"I received the most precious Father's Day gift."
He gently held her hand.
"No expensive watch."
"No fancy pen."
"No luxury car."
He lifted the scrapbook.
"Just the love of my daughter."
"And that..."
He smiled proudly.
"Is priceless."
Aadhya hugged him once again.
"I love you, Papa."
He kissed the top of her head.
"I love you too, beta."
"More than you'll ever know."
Vivaan suddenly clapped.
"Family photo time!"
Within minutes...
The photographer—already invited secretly by Aryaveer—arrived at the mansion.
The garden was bright with morning sunlight.
The family spent the next hour taking countless photographs.
One with Vikram and all seven children.
One with only Aadhya and Vikram.
One where Advik purposely blinked.
Another where Vivaan insisted on standing next to Aadhya.
One where Vihaan made everyone laugh.
One where Rudransh smiled while Aadhya held onto his arm.
One where Veeransh quietly rested a hand on Aadhya's shoulder.
One where Aryaveer looked proudly at his family instead of the camera.
The photographer laughed.
"I've never met a family that smiles this naturally."
Advik grinned.
"We don't pose."
"We just exist."
Later that evening...
The framed scrapbook cover—
The Man Who Chose Me
—was placed inside Vikram's study.
Not inside a cupboard.
Not on a shelf.
But on his desk.
Where he could see it every single day.
As the sun slowly disappeared beyond the horizon...
Aadhya looked at her father laughing with her brothers in the garden.
She had waited by an orphanage gate, hoping someone would come back for her.
Today...
She no longer waited.
Because the man who had chosen her...
Never once let go of her hand.
And she silently thanked life...
For giving her the privilege of calling him—
Papa.
