"Growing up becomes a little less frightening when someone holds your hand through it."
The week of the mid-term examinations had begun.
Rathore Mansion was unusually quiet that morning.
Instead of playful arguments over breakfast...
Everyone was revising notes.
Aryaveer wished the younger ones good luck before leaving for work.
Rudransh reminded them not to skip meals because of exam stress.
Advik dramatically announced,
"If anyone fails, I'll pretend I don't know them."
Vihaan immediately replied,
"Good thing none of us plan to fail."
Vivaan grinned.
"Twinny's here. We'll all survive."
Aadhya smiled shyly.
She had studied late into the night with Veeransh's help.
She felt prepared.
Or at least...
She thought she did.
On the way to school...
Vivaan kept quizzing her.
"What's the formula?"
She answered without hesitation.
He nodded proudly.
"See? Chhoti Veeransh has trained you well."
Aadhya laughed.
"If Bhaiya heard that, he'd make us solve ten more questions."
Vihaan, walking beside them toward the senior block, chuckled.
"That's exactly what he'd do."
At the entrance to the academic building, the siblings separated.
"Best of luck, Pumpkin," Vihaan said, ruffling Aadhya's hair gently.
"You too, Bhaiya."
Vivaan pointed dramatically.
"Meet you after school, Twinny!"
She smiled.
"See you."
The first exam went smoothly.
Aadhya finished with confidence.
Kabir smiled as they left the classroom.
"That paper was easier than expected."
Dev stretched dramatically.
"My brain officially deserves a holiday."
Kiara laughed.
"It deserves more studying."
Everyone smiled.
Everything felt normal.
Until the second period.
A dull ache began in Aadhya's lower abdomen.
She frowned slightly.
Maybe...
She had skipped breakfast too quickly.
Or perhaps...
Her body was still recovering from the accident.
She ignored it.
But as the class continued...
The pain slowly became stronger.
She shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
A hand instinctively rested against her stomach.
Siya, sitting beside her, noticed.
She leaned over and whispered,
"Are you okay?"
Aadhya forced a small smile.
"I think so."
"Does it hurt?"
"Just a little."
Siya looked concerned.
"If it gets worse, tell Ma'am."
Aadhya nodded.
"I will."
The bell rang for the next period.
As everyone stood up...
Aadhya suddenly froze.
She felt something...
Different.
Her heart began beating faster.
Quietly, she glanced down.
A faint reddish stain had appeared on the back of her white school skirt.
For a moment...
The world seemed to stop.
Her breathing became uneven.
Am I hurt?
Did my stitches open?
Am I bleeding?
Fear tightened her chest.
She had never experienced anything like this before.
No one had ever explained it to her.
Her biological mother had never spoken to her about growing up.
Never prepared her.
Never answered the questions she had been too afraid to ask.
Aadhya's eyes immediately filled with panic.
Siya noticed the change in her expression.
"Aadhya?"
No answer.
She followed Aadhya's frightened gaze.
Within seconds...
She understood.
Her expression softened.
She gently took Aadhya's hand beneath the desk.
"It's okay."
Aadhya looked at her helplessly.
"I... I don't know what's happening..."
"It's alright."
Siya spoke so softly that only Aadhya could hear.
"Come with me."
Without attracting attention...
Siya quietly informed the teacher that Aadhya wasn't feeling well.
The teacher immediately nodded.
"Take her to the girls' washroom."
Once inside...
Aadhya finally whispered,
"Siya..."
"I'm scared."
Siya squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"You don't have to be."
Just then...
Kiara entered after noticing they hadn't returned to class.
She took one look at the situation.
Then immediately understood.
"Oh..."
She walked over gently.
"It's your first period, isn't it?"
Aadhya looked confused.
"My... what?"
Kiara and Siya exchanged a glance.
Neither laughed.
Neither made her feel embarrassed.
Instead...
Kiara smiled kindly.
"It's okay."
"You're completely fine."
"You've just grown up a little."
A few minutes later...
The school nurse arrived with one of the female teachers.
The nurse immediately guided Aadhya into the medical room connected to the infirmary.
She spoke gently throughout.
"Don't worry, sweetheart."
"Nothing is wrong."
"This is called menstruation."
"It's a completely natural part of growing up."
Aadhya listened quietly.
Still nervous.
Still overwhelmed.
The nurse patiently explained everything in simple, comforting words.
How it happens.
Why it happens.
How to use a sanitary pad.
How to take care of herself.
What to expect.
The female teacher stayed beside her the entire time, making sure she never felt alone.
The school kept emergency sanitary pads and spare sports uniforms for situations like this.
After changing into a clean school tracksuit and washing up...
Aadhya looked much calmer.
Still embarrassed.
But no longer frightened.
Before she left, the nurse smiled warmly.
"And remember..."
"There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of."
The teacher added,
"If you ever need help again, you can always come to us."
Aadhya smiled gratefully.
"Thank you, Ma'am."
Meanwhile...
Outside...
Vivaan had begun worrying.
During recess he searched for Aadhya.
She wasn't in the classroom.
Not in the library.
Not near the canteen.
"Twinny?"
He frowned.
"Where did she go?"
Kabir, Dev and Arjun walked over.
"You looking for Aadhya?" Kabir asked.
Vivaan nodded.
"I can't find her."
Dev smiled reassuringly.
"Relax."
"She's with Siya and Kiara."
Arjun added calmly,
"She's okay."
"They're taking care of something."
Vivaan looked uncertain.
"Are you sure?"
Kabir nodded.
"If there was any problem, the teachers would've informed the school."
Vivaan took a deep breath.
"Okay..."
He trusted them.
But he still couldn't stop worrying.
The rest of the school day passed quietly.
Aadhya attended the remaining classes after resting for a while in the infirmary.
Siya stayed beside her.
Kiara kept distracting her with funny stories whenever she looked uncomfortable.
Neither of them allowed her to feel alone.
The final bell rang.
Students poured out of their classrooms.
Vihaan met them near the school gate after finishing his own exam.
He immediately noticed Aadhya looked quieter than usual.
Before he could ask...
Siya gently stepped closer to Vivaan.
She spoke softly so only he could hear.
"She's not feeling well today."
"Please make sure she rests when she gets home."
Vivaan looked at Aadhya.
Then back at Siya.
He didn't ask another question.
He simply nodded.
"Thank you."
Siya smiled.
"Take care of her."
"I will."
As they began walking home...
Vivaan quietly reached for Aadhya's school bag.
She looked surprised.
"I can carry it."
"I know."
"But today..."
He slung it over his own shoulder.
"I'll carry it."
She didn't argue.
They walked side by side.
Vihaan slowed his pace to match theirs.
Normally, Vivaan would spend the entire walk talking nonstop.
Today...
He simply stayed beside his Twinny.
Whenever they reached a busy road...
He instinctively moved to the side closest to the traffic.
Neither brother asked unnecessary questions.
Their quiet presence alone made Aadhya feel safe.
When they finally reached Rathore Mansion...
Vikram had just returned from work.
He smiled as the three entered.
"How were the exams?"
Vihaan answered first.
"They went well, Papa."
Vivaan looked toward Aadhya, who quietly excused herself.
"I'll just go upstairs..."
She gave everyone a small smile before walking slowly toward her room.
Vivaan watched her until she disappeared up the staircase.
Then he turned to Vikram.
His usual cheerful expression had been replaced by concern.
He spoke softly.
"Papa..."
Vikram looked at him.
"Yes, beta?"
Vivaan glanced toward the stairs.
"Twinny isn't feeling well today."
Vikram's smile faded into concern.
"What happened?"
Vivaan shook his head.
"I don't know exactly..."
"But Siya said she needs to rest."
Just then, Aryaveer, Rudransh, Veeransh, Advik and Vihaan also looked toward the staircase.
One by one...
Their attention shifted to Aadhya's room.
The cheerful noise of the mansion slowly faded.
Because one thing was certain...
Whenever Aadhya wasn't well...
The Rathore family couldn't rest until they knew she was alright.
To Be Continued...
