"Sometimes healing begins long before the wounds disappear. It begins the moment someone says, 'Let us take care of you.'"
Two days later...
The long-awaited discharge papers were finally ready.
The doctor smiled as he handed them to Vikram.
"She can go home."
"But remember—"
He looked directly at Aadhya.
"Complete rest."
"No running."
"No climbing stairs unnecessarily."
"No heavy school bag."
"And absolutely no trying to do household work."
Aadhya smiled sheepishly.
"I'll try."
Six voices answered at once.
"She won't."
The doctor laughed.
"I believe them."
Outside the hospital...
The Rathore family carefully helped Aadhya into the car.
Vivaan immediately claimed the seat beside her.
"I called shotgun."
Advik raised an eyebrow.
"That's not how hospital discharge works."
"It does today."
No one argued.
The drive home felt different.
The roads looked familiar.
The sky seemed brighter.
For the first time in days...
No one was afraid.
Instead...
The car was filled with soft conversations.
Vihaan pointed out funny billboards just to make Aadhya smile.
Advik attempted another terrible joke.
"What do you call a sleeping dinosaur?"
Everyone groaned.
"Don't answer."
"A dino-snore."
Vivaan covered his face.
"I'm sitting in the wrong car."
Even Veeransh smiled faintly from the front seat.
Nearly an hour later...
The grand gates of Rathore Mansion slowly opened.
As the car entered...
Aadhya looked out of the window.
Then froze.
The entire entrance had been decorated.
Fresh marigold garlands hung from the pillars.
Colourful flowers lined the pathway.
Soft pastel balloons floated near the doorway.
A beautiful rangoli welcomed her home.
Across the entrance...
A handmade banner fluttered gently in the breeze.
The words were written in large, uneven letters.
WELCOME HOME, TWINNY!
One side of the banner drooped lower than the other.
The letters were different sizes.
Some were slanting.
One "E" was backwards.
Aadhya couldn't help laughing.
She looked at Vivaan.
"You made that, didn't you?"
Vivaan puffed out his chest proudly.
"I did."
Advik coughed dramatically.
"It only took him three chart papers."
"And two rolls of tape."
"And one emotional breakdown."
Vivaan frowned.
"It was artistic!"
Aryaveer smiled.
"It was perfect."
Aadhya looked at the banner again.
It wasn't perfect.
Not even close.
But to her...
It was the most beautiful welcome she had ever seen.
The servants gathered near the entrance.
"Welcome home, Baby Madam."
"Welcome back."
"We missed you."
Ramu Kaka smiled warmly.
"The mansion wasn't the same without you."
Aadhya folded her hands politely.
"Thank you, everyone."
Vikram gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Come inside, beta."
She stepped through the doorway.
For a brief moment...
She remembered another day.
The day she had first entered this house.
Scared.
Nervous.
Unsure if she truly belonged.
Today...
She entered as a daughter.
As a sister.
As someone who was deeply loved.
Her room looked exactly as she had left it.
Fresh flowers rested on the window seat.
Her favourite teddy bear sat neatly on the bed.
The books Vihaan had bought at the hospital were already arranged on the shelf.
Someone had even placed her framed sketch from the school bonfire beside the bed.
Everything felt warm.
Everything felt like home.
After lunch...
Everyone insisted she should rest.
"I'm not sleepy."
"You still need rest," Rudransh replied.
"I'm perfectly fine."
"You still need rest."
"I can at least sit downstairs."
"You still need rest."
She sighed dramatically.
"Do you all have the same script?"
Advik nodded.
"We had a meeting."
"There was a presentation."
Vivaan joined in seriously.
"I voted in favour."
Even Veeransh quietly added,
"Rest."
Aadhya laughed.
"I surrender."
That evening...
Feeling much stronger...
She quietly slipped out of her room.
As she walked downstairs...
She noticed Ramu Kaka carrying a heavy tray of teacups toward the drawing room.
Without thinking...
She hurried forward.
"Ramu Kaka."
"I'll help."
She reached for the tray.
The tray hadn't even touched her hands when—
"No."
Aryaveer's voice came from the staircase.
She turned.
He was walking toward her.
Almost at the same time...
Rudransh entered from the kitchen.
"Leave it."
Vihaan came in from the garden.
"Pumpkin."
"What are you doing?"
Vivaan rushed over.
"Twinny!"
"You're supposed to be resting!"
Advik appeared from behind the sofa.
"Munchkin!"
"Hands off the tray."
Finally...
Veeransh walked into the room.
He looked at the tray.
Then at Aadhya.
One calm sentence.
"Chhoti."
"Sit."
Ramu Kaka looked around in amusement.
"I think..."
"I'll carry it myself."
He walked away before anyone else could object.
Aadhya blinked.
"I was only trying to help."
Aryaveer folded his arms.
"No lifting."
Rudransh nodded.
"No unnecessary work."
Vihaan pointed toward the sofa.
"Sit."
Vivaan gently held her hand.
"I'll get you anything you need."
She looked helplessly at Advik.
Surely he would support her.
Instead...
He cleared his throat dramatically.
Then announced in his deepest voice,
"Doctor's orders."
He pointed toward her like a lawyer presenting evidence.
"Princess treatment only."
The entire room burst into laughter.
Vivaan immediately saluted.
"Yes!"
"Our princess is not allowed to work."
Vihaan grinned.
"Agreed."
Aryaveer smiled.
"Unanimous decision."
Rudransh added,
"Medically approved."
Even Veeransh gave a small nod.
"Final."
Aadhya looked around at all six of them.
Then quietly sat down on the sofa.
Within seconds...
Things began appearing around her.
A glass of fresh juice from Rudransh.
A soft blanket from Vivaan.
A cushion adjusted behind her back by Aryaveer.
Her favourite puzzle book from Vihaan.
A chocolate secretly slipped into her hand by Advik.
And without saying a word...
Veeransh placed the novel she had been reading on the table beside her.
"So you don't have to get up later."
She looked at everything.
Then at them.
Her throat tightened.
There had once been a time...
When a fever of 103°F hadn't earned her a single glass of water without being asked.
When she had cooked meals while feeling sick.
When she had taken care of everyone else...
Because no one had ever taken care of her.
Now...
She wasn't being allowed to lift a tray.
Not because they thought she was weak.
But because they loved her.
Tears filled her eyes.
Vikram noticed immediately.
"What happened, beta?"
She shook her head with a trembling smile.
"Nothing, Papa."
"I was just thinking..."
"What?"
She looked around at her father...
Her six brothers...
And the home that had become her world.
"For the first time..."
"I know what it feels like..."
"...to be the one being cared for."
The room fell silent.
Aryaveer gently squeezed her shoulder.
"You've spent enough of your life taking care of everyone else, Sunshine."
Rudransh smiled warmly.
"Now it's our turn, Dove."
Vivaan hugged her from one side.
"We're never giving up our Twinny."
Vihaan ruffled her hair.
"Our Pumpkin deserves to rest."
Advik grinned.
"Our Munchkin is officially under lifelong family protection."
Veeransh looked at her with the same quiet warmth that had appeared after the hospital.
"And our Chhoti..."
"...is home."
Aadhya smiled through happy tears.
Because she finally understood something she had never believed possible.
Love didn't always need grand words.
Sometimes...
It looked like six brothers refusing to let you carry a tray.
To Be Continued...
