"Home is not a place. It's the people who refuse to leave your side when you're at your weakest."
The next morning...
Golden sunlight filtered through the curtains of Room 203.
The steady beeping of the heart monitor had become softer.
More reassuring.
Aadhya slowly opened her eyes.
For the first time since the accident...
Her head didn't hurt as much.
She looked around the room.
Everything felt peaceful.
Then she smiled.
Because she wasn't alone.
She hadn't been alone for even a single minute.
Later that morning, the doctor completed another examination.
He checked her stitches, reviewed the latest scan, and smiled.
"You're recovering very well, Aadhya."
She smiled back.
"Thank you, Doctor."
"You'll need complete rest for a few weeks."
"No strenuous activity."
"No running."
"No climbing."
"And..."
He looked at the family standing behind him.
"...if everything remains stable, you can go home in two days."
The room visibly relaxed.
Vivaan almost jumped.
"Really?"
The doctor chuckled.
"Really."
"But only if my instructions are followed."
Six brothers nodded at the exact same time.
"We promise."
The doctor laughed.
"I wasn't expecting six bodyguards."
The moment the doctor left...
Advik clapped dramatically.
"Excellent."
"Our patient has officially been sentenced to two more days of listening to my jokes."
"Oh no..." Aadhya whispered.
Everyone laughed.
Aryaveer
Although work couldn't stop...
Neither could he.
Every morning he attended online meetings from the hospital lounge.
His laptop remained open almost all day.
Files surrounded him.
Business calls continued.
But every thirty minutes...
Without fail...
He quietly walked into Room 203.
"How's my Sunshine?"
"I'm okay."
"Head hurting?"
"A little."
"Need anything?"
She smiled.
"I'm fine."
Only after hearing those words would he return to work.
Rudransh
Despite the doctors repeatedly assuring him,
"She's perfectly stable."
He still checked on her every few hours.
Blood pressure.
Pulse.
Temperature.
Hydration.
Medication timings.
Everything.
Finally...
One of the nurses laughed.
"Dr. Rathore."
"We're already taking care of her."
He smiled sheepishly.
"I know."
"I'm just her brother."
The nurse smiled knowingly.
"That explains everything."
Advik
No one knew where he found the confidence.
But he declared himself the official Mood Improvement Department.
Every few hours...
He arrived with a brand-new terrible joke.
"Munchkin."
"What has four wheels and flies?"
Aadhya thought seriously.
"I don't know."
"A garbage truck."
Silence.
"..."
"..."
Vivaan blinked.
"That wasn't funny."
"It was educational."
Dev would have been proud.
Later...
He returned.
"Why did the tomato turn red?"
Aadhya sighed dramatically.
"Please don't."
"Because it saw the salad dressing."
This time...
Even Veeransh closed his book and looked at him.
Advik grinned proudly.
"I'll be here all week."
Everyone groaned together.
Aadhya laughed so hard she had to hold her bandaged forehead.
"Oww..."
"See?"
Advik pointed proudly.
"She laughed."
"My mission is successful."
Vihaan
He quietly disappeared one afternoon.
No one knew where he had gone.
An hour later...
He returned carrying several shopping bags.
Aadhya looked confused.
"Pumpkin."
He placed them beside her bed.
"For you."
She opened the first bag.
Storybooks.
The second.
Puzzle books.
Crossword books.
Sudoku.
Colouring sheets.
A beautiful sketch diary.
A new set of coloured pencils.
"You'll get bored."
"So..."
"I fixed the problem."
She looked at everything with wide eyes.
"You bought all this... for me?"
He shrugged casually.
"I couldn't let my Pumpkin spend two days staring at the ceiling."
Her eyes filled with gratitude.
"Thank you, Bhaiya."
He smiled.
"Now promise you'll beat my Sudoku score."
"I definitely will."
"We'll see."
Vivaan
The nurses had completely given up trying to separate him from Room 203.
His school bag sat in one corner.
He finished his homework there.
Ate there.
Watched cartoons there.
Even napped in the chair beside Aadhya's bed.
Every time someone asked where Vivaan was...
The answer was always the same.
"Room 203."
One afternoon, Aadhya woke from a nap and found him asleep with his head resting beside her hand.
She gently brushed his hair away from his forehead.
He immediately woke up.
"Twinny?"
"I'm here."
He smiled with sleepy relief.
"Good."
Then he went right back to sleep.
Veeransh
Unlike the others...
He didn't speak much.
He simply sat quietly beside her.
A book rested in his hands.
Every now and then...
He would look up from the page.
Just to make sure she was comfortable.
Sometimes...
Their eyes met.
Neither of them said anything.
Neither needed to.
The silence between them no longer felt distant.
It felt safe.
One evening...
Aadhya noticed he hadn't turned a page in almost ten minutes.
"Bhaiya?"
"Hm?"
"You're not reading."
He looked down at the open book.
Then smiled faintly.
"I know."
She smiled back.
"You were checking if I was asleep."
He didn't deny it.
Instead...
He gently adjusted her blanket.
"Go back to sleep, Chhoti."
She did.
Knowing someone was watching over her.
By the second evening...
The hospital staff had become very familiar with the Rathore family.
Whenever someone walked past Room 203...
They heard laughter.
Conversations.
Arguments over board games.
Vivaan complaining that Advik cheated.
Advik insisting he was simply "creative."
Vihaan helping Aadhya solve puzzles.
Rudransh reminding everyone to keep their voices down.
Aryaveer taking business calls outside before returning with fresh juice.
Veeransh quietly sitting nearby with his book.
And Vikram smiling as he watched all seven of his children together.
One nurse stopped outside the room and laughed softly.
Another joined her.
"It doesn't even feel like a hospital room anymore."
The first nurse nodded.
"It feels like someone's family living room."
"And honestly..."
"I think that's the best medicine she could have."
That night...
After everyone had finally fallen quiet...
Aadhya looked around the room.
Her father was asleep in the visitor's chair.
Vivaan had somehow managed to hold her hand again.
Aryaveer had left his laptop open after finishing work.
Rudransh's medical notes rested on the table.
Advik had left behind a handwritten note that read:
"Recover quickly. I still have twenty-seven terrible jokes left."
Vihaan's books and puzzle games were neatly stacked beside her bed.
Veeransh's book lay open on his lap as he dozed off in the chair beside her.
Aadhya smiled through happy tears.
There had once been a time...
When no one noticed if she was sick.
When birthdays passed without a wish.
When even her pain went unseen.
Now...
One small hospital room had become crowded...
Simply because six brothers and one father refused to leave her alone.
She closed her eyes with a peaceful smile.
For the first time in her life...
She truly understood what home meant.
Because home...
Was waiting for her in every heartbeat around that room.
And until she returned...
The Rathore Mansion didn't feel complete either.
To Be Continued...
