Chapter 39-Chhoti

"The strongest hearts are not the ones that never break. They are the ones that finally allow themselves to love."

The shrill sound of the ambulance siren faded as it pulled into the emergency entrance of the hospital.

Doctors and nurses rushed forward with a stretcher.

"Head injury."

"Possible concussion."

"Pulse stable."

"Prepare the emergency room."

The medical team moved swiftly.

Within seconds...

Aadhya disappeared through the emergency doors.

The red light above the treatment room switched on.

The doors closed.

And all that remained outside...

Was waiting.

Nearly twenty minutes later...

Six cars came to a screeching halt outside the hospital.

The Rathores had arrived.

Vivaan was the first to run toward Vikram.

The moment he saw his father...

He broke down completely.

"Papa..."

Vikram immediately hugged him.

"What happened?"

Vivaan sobbed uncontrollably.

"I..."

"I ran after a paper windmill..."

"She pushed me..."

"I fell on the grass..."

"But Twinny..."

"She..."

His voice broke.

"It's my fault."

Vikram gently cupped his face.

"No."

"But—"

"No, beta."

"You didn't ask her to get hurt."

Vivaan cried even harder.

"I should've listened..."

Aryaveer quickly walked to the reception desk.

"Patient name?"

"Aadhya Rathore."

He completed admission formalities.

Signed every required document.

Spoke to the doctors.

Arranged everything calmly.

At least...

That's how he appeared.

But every time someone mentioned her name...

His grip on the pen tightened.

Rudransh changed into hospital scrubs.

As a doctor with privileges at the hospital, he was allowed to assist during the initial emergency assessment.

He helped stabilize her.

Reviewed the scans.

Discussed her condition with the treating neurosurgeon.

But when the team prepared for a more detailed procedure and observation...

The senior consultant gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Dr. Rathore..."

Rudransh looked up.

"Right now..."

"You're her brother."

"We'll take care of the rest."

For a moment...

Rudransh wanted to argue.

Every instinct in him wanted to stay.

But he knew they were right.

Slowly...

He removed his gloves.

And walked out.

This time...

Not as a doctor.

Only as an older brother.

Advik paced the corridor endlessly.

Usually...

He filled every silence with jokes.

Today...

Not a single word came.

He stared at the emergency room doors.

Every few minutes...

He whispered under his breath,

"Come on, Munchkin..."

"Wake up..."

Vihaan sat quietly in one corner of the waiting area.

His hands were tightly folded.

His eyes remained closed.

He wasn't speaking.

He wasn't crying.

He simply prayed.

Over and over again.

"Please let Pumpkin be okay..."

"Please..."

Vikram stood before the small hospital temple.

He folded his hands.

For years...

He had prayed for the happiness of his children.

Tonight...

He asked for only one thing.

"Take anything from me..."

"But bring my daughter back."

Hours passed.

The night grew deeper.

Finally...

The emergency room doors opened.

The doctor stepped outside.

Everyone stood immediately.

"How is she?"

The doctor smiled reassuringly.

"She's out of immediate danger."

A collective sigh of relief filled the corridor.

"She has a concussion and several bruises."

"The cut on her forehead required stitches."

"But..."

"We expect a full recovery."

"She'll remain under observation tonight."

"She hasn't regained consciousness yet."

"Someone may stay with her."

No one moved.

Then...

Veeransh quietly stepped forward.

"I will."

The others looked at him.

No one objected.

They simply nodded.

The hospital room was silent.

Only the soft beeping of the heart monitor filled the air.

Moonlight filtered through the window.

Aadhya lay peacefully on the bed.

A bandage covered part of her forehead.

An IV line rested against her hand.

She looked so small.

So fragile.

Veeransh slowly pulled a chair beside her bed.

For several minutes...

He simply looked at her.

He didn't speak.

Didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Ten years.

Ten long years.

Since the day his mother had passed away.

He had buried every emotion inside himself.

He had convinced everyone...

Including himself...

That he no longer cried.

That nothing could shake him anymore.

Tonight...

That wall finally shattered.

He carefully reached forward.

And held Aadhya's hand with both of his.

It felt cold.

Too cold.

His fingers tightened around hers.

His voice came out as barely a whisper.

"Please..."

The room remained silent.

"Wake up..."

His throat tightened.

"Please..."

A tear slipped down his cheek.

Then another.

And another.

They landed gently on the back of Aadhya's hand.

His shoulders trembled.

"I already lost Mom..."

His voice cracked completely.

"I..."

"I can't lose you too."

For the first time in ten years...

Veeransh Rathore cried without trying to hide it.

Not quietly.

Not silently.

He cried like the little boy who had once lost his mother.

Because tonight...

He thought he might lose his little sister too.

Several minutes passed.

Nothing happened.

Then...

Very gently...

A finger moved.

Veeransh froze.

He looked down.

Her fingers twitched again.

His breath caught.

"Aadhya...?"

Her eyelashes fluttered.

Slowly...

Very slowly...

She opened her eyes.

Everything looked blurry.

The lights.

The room.

The machines.

Then...

Her vision cleared.

The first face she saw...

Was Veeransh.

Crying.

She had never imagined she would see him like this.

He noticed her eyes open.

For one second...

He couldn't believe it.

Then...

Without caring about anything else...

He leaned forward carefully.

Wrapping his arms around her as gently as possible.

Afraid of hurting her.

Afraid she might disappear if he let go.

His voice shook.

"Don't ever scare me like that again..."

She could feel him trembling.

The same brother who had always appeared so calm.

So distant.

Was holding her as though she were the most precious thing in the world.

After a long moment...

He slowly pulled back.

His hand gently rested against her hair.

Then...

He leaned down.

And softly kissed the top of her head.

"My... Chhoti..."

Aadhya looked at him.

The word settled warmly into her heart.

She gave him a weak smile.

"I'm sorry..."

"...Bhaiya."

He immediately shook his head.

"No."

His eyes filled again.

"Just come back to us."

She squeezed his hand as much as her strength allowed.

"I will."

A soft knock sounded on the door.

The rest of the family entered carefully.

Vivaan was the first to rush to her bedside.

"Twinny!"

He stopped himself from hugging her too tightly.

"I'm so sorry..."

She smiled faintly.

"It wasn't your fault."

"It was!"

She gently shook her head.

"You'll always be my little brother."

"And I'd do it again."

Vivaan cried all over again.

This time...

Happy tears.

Advik laughed through watery eyes.

"Our Munchkin scared us."

Rudransh gently checked her pulse.

"Dove..."

"You gave your doctor brother a heart attack."

Vihaan carefully held her hand.

"Pumpkin..."

"You have to stop saving people like movie heroes."

Even Aryaveer smiled with moist eyes.

"Our Sunshine is finally awake."

Vikram bent down and kissed her forehead, careful to avoid the bandage.

"My brave daughter..."

"Welcome back."

Standing quietly at the back of the room...

Veeransh watched the scene.

For the first time in years...

His heart felt lighter.

Because the fear that had haunted him all night...

Had finally disappeared.

From that day onward...

No one else called her by that name.

Only Veeransh.

Softly.

Protectively.

Lovingly.

Chhoti. ❤️

And somehow...

That single word healed two hearts at once.

The little sister who had finally found a family...

And the brother who had finally allowed himself to love again.
