"Some people don't shine because life has been easy. They shine because they choose light even after living through darkness."
The first rays of morning sunlight slipped through the curtains of Rathore Mansion.
After an entire sleepless night...
The house was unusually peaceful.
Everyone looked exhausted.
Aryaveer's neatly combed hair was slightly messy.
Rudransh had dark circles beneath his eyes after monitoring Aadhya the whole night.
Vihaan yawned every few minutes.
Advik looked as though he could fall asleep standing up.
Vivaan was still curled up on the sofa beside Aadhya's bed, one hand loosely holding the edge of her blanket.
Even Veeransh had finally closed his book sometime before dawn.
Vikram hadn't left the room until sunrise.
At exactly 8:00 a.m.
Rudransh checked the thermometer one more time.
Everyone watched silently.
A few seconds later...
The thermometer beeped.
98.6°F
For a moment...
Nobody spoke.
Then Rudransh smiled.
"The fever's gone."
A collective sigh of relief filled the room.
Vihaan threw both hands into the air.
"Finally!"
Advik dramatically leaned against the wall.
"I think I was the one getting a fever from worrying."
Vivaan blinked awake.
"Huh?"
He looked toward Rudransh.
"Twinny's okay?"
Rudransh nodded.
"She's much better."
Without another word, Vivaan hugged Aadhya carefully.
"I told you I'd stay."
She smiled weakly.
"I know."
The doctor in Rudransh was satisfied.
But the brother wasn't.
"You'll still rest today."
"No school."
"No books."
"No drawing."
"No sneaking into the kitchen for chocolates."
Advik looked offended.
"Why was that directed at me?"
"Because you'll encourage her."
"I absolutely would."
Everyone laughed.
The tension that had gripped the mansion since yesterday finally began to melt away.
A little later...
The others reluctantly left the room to freshen up and have breakfast.
Only Aryaveer remained downstairs.
Ramu Kaka handed him a tray.
"Light breakfast for Baby Madam."
A bowl of warm porridge.
Fresh fruit.
Toast.
Juice.
Aryaveer nodded.
"I'll take it."
He quietly climbed the stairs and knocked softly.
There was no answer.
He opened the door just enough to step inside.
The room was calm.
Morning sunlight spilled gently across the floor.
Vivaan had finally gone to his room after Rudransh promised to call him if Aadhya needed anything.
Aadhya was sitting against the headboard.
At some point while waiting...
She had fallen asleep again.
The book she'd been trying to read rested loosely in her lap.
Her head leaned awkwardly to one side.
Aryaveer smiled.
"So stubborn."
He placed the breakfast tray on the bedside table as quietly as possible.
Carefully...
He lifted the book from her lap and placed a bookmark inside.
Then he gently adjusted the pillow behind her so her neck wouldn't hurt.
Without waking her...
He slowly pulled the blanket up around her shoulders.
Making sure she stayed warm.
His movements were gentle.
Almost instinctive.
For a few moments...
He simply stood there.
Looking at his little sister.
The girl who had walked into their lives carrying nothing but a small cloth bag.
The girl who apologized before speaking.
The girl who smiled even after being hurt.
The girl who somehow filled every corner of the mansion with warmth.
A soft smile appeared on his face.
Thinking she was still asleep...
He quietly whispered,
"You really are our Sunshine."
His voice was barely audible.
"But every morning somehow feels brighter because you're here."
A few seconds passed.
Then...
A soft voice spoke.
"...Bhaiya?"
Aryaveer froze.
Slowly...
Aadhya opened her eyes.
She looked at him with sleepy surprise.
"You..."
"You heard that?"
She gave a tiny nod.
There were tears shimmering in her eyes.
He looked slightly embarrassed and cleared his throat.
"I thought you were asleep."
"I was..."
She smiled faintly.
"...until someone called me Sunshine."
Silence filled the room.
Then she whispered,
"Nobody has ever called me something so beautiful."
Her voice trembled.
Not with sadness.
But with emotion.
She lowered her eyes.
"I've been called many things before..."
"A burden."
"Useless."
"Unlucky."
"...But never something beautiful."
Aryaveer's heart tightened.
He gently sat beside her bed.
"No one who truly knows you would ever use those words."
She looked up at him.
He smiled warmly.
"Get used to it."
She blinked.
"Hm?"
"Because that's who you are."
"You walk into a room..."
"And somehow everyone smiles a little more."
"Vivaan laughs louder."
"Advik gets into more trouble."
"Papa smiles more often."
"Even this house feels happier."
He gently tapped the tip of her nose.
"You brought light back into this family."
"So..."
He smiled.
"You'll always be my Sunshine."
A tear finally escaped Aadhya's eye.
Before she could wipe it away...
Aryaveer handed her a handkerchief.
"No crying."
She laughed softly through her tears.
"I'm trying."
Just then...
The door burst open.
"Twinny!"
Vivaan rushed inside.
The rest of the family followed behind.
Advik looked between the two suspiciously.
"What happened?"
"Why are there tears?"
Aryaveer calmly stood up.
"Nothing."
Aadhya quickly wiped her eyes.
"Nothing."
Advik narrowed his eyes.
"I don't believe either of you."
Vihaan noticed the smile on Aadhya's face.
"Whatever happened..."
"I think it's a good thing."
Rudransh walked over with another glass of water.
"Feeling better, Dove?"
She nodded.
"A lot better."
"Munchkin recovered?" Advik asked dramatically.
She giggled.
"Yes."
Vivaan proudly held her hand.
"My Twinny is strong."
Even Veeransh, standing quietly near the door, looked relieved to see genuine colour returning to her face.
As everyone gathered around her bed...
Aryaveer quietly picked up the breakfast tray.
He placed it in front of her.
"Come on."
"Breakfast."
She smiled.
"Okay."
As she picked up the spoon...
Aryaveer looked at her and said casually,
"Eat well, Sunshine."
The room fell silent for a second.
"Sunshine?" Vivaan repeated.
Advik grinned.
"New nickname?"
Aryaveer nodded simply.
"Mine."
Vivaan folded his arms dramatically.
"Fine."
"You keep Sunshine."
"I still have Twinny."
Advik pointed proudly.
"And I have Munchkin."
Rudransh smiled.
"Dove."
Vihaan laughed.
"At this rate, she'll forget her real name."
Everyone laughed.
Even Veeransh's lips curved into a faint smile.
Aadhya looked around at the faces surrounding her.
One brother called her Twinny.
Another called her Munchkin.
Another, Dove.
And now...
Her eldest brother had given her a name that made her heart glow.
She smiled so brightly that the morning sunlight seemed almost unnecessary.
Perhaps...
That was why Aryaveer had chosen it.
Because after everything she had endured...
She still found a way to bring warmth into everyone's lives.
And from that day onward...
Only Aryaveer ever called her—
Sunshine. ☀️
