Chapter 33-Nobody Sleeps

"Love isn't proven by grand gestures. Sometimes, it's simply staying awake beside someone who needs you."

The night settled quietly over Rathore Mansion.

The laughter that had once filled the house was gone.

Tonight...

Only the soft ticking of the clock echoed through the corridors.

A warm lamp glowed in Aadhya's room.

She was still asleep, her cheeks slightly flushed from the fever.

Though her temperature had come down...

Rudransh had made one thing very clear.

"We're not taking any chances tonight."

The family immediately divided the responsibilities.

Not because anyone told them to.

Because no one wanted to leave her alone.

Aryaveer

Every hour...

Without fail...

Aryaveer quietly walked into the room.

He noted the time.

Picked up the thermometer.

Waited patiently.

100.9Β°F

He wrote it down neatly in a small notebook.

Every reading.

Every medicine.

Every improvement.

Nothing escaped his attention.

At one point, Rudransh smiled.

"You'd make a good hospital administrator."

Aryaveer looked up.

"I just don't want us to miss anything."

Rudransh

He remained beside Aadhya almost the entire night.

Checking her pulse.

Listening to her breathing.

Replacing the cold compress whenever it became warm.

Making sure she drank enough water.

Giving medicines exactly on time.

He wasn't just her brother tonight.

He was her doctor too.

But every time he gently adjusted the blanket around her shoulders...

The doctor quietly disappeared...

Leaving only an older brother behind.

Advik

Despite the worry clearly visible on his face...

He refused to let the room become gloomy.

Every hour, he came in with a new joke.

At one point, he quietly whispered to the sleeping Aadhya,

"Munchkin..."

"You owe me chocolates."

"If you don't wake up soon..."

"I'm eating your secret chocolate jar."

Rudransh shook his head.

"She can't even hear you."

"I know."

"But maybe the chocolates can."

Even Aryaveer smiled.

A little later...

Advik quietly placed a tiny chocolate beside her bedside table.

"For when my Munchkin gets better."

Then he slipped out of the room.

Vihaan

At exactly 2:00 a.m.

The kitchen lights suddenly switched on.

Ramu Kaka walked in, surprised.

"Vihaan Baba?"

"What happened?"

Vihaan smiled sheepishly.

"Can you teach me how to make light vegetable soup?"

Ramu Kaka raised an eyebrow.

"For yourself?"

He shook his head.

"For Aadhya."

Together...

The two quietly prepared warm soup.

It wasn't perfect.

The vegetables were cut into uneven pieces.

There was a little too much coriander.

But it was made with care.

When Vihaan proudly carried it upstairs...

Advik peeked inside.

"It actually smells good."

"I know."

"I'm shocked too."

Vivaan

True to his promise...

He refused to leave.

He sat beside Aadhya's bed with both hands wrapped around hers.

At first...

He kept talking softly.

"Twinny..."

"When you get better..."

"We'll finish the chocolates."

"And we still have to wear our matching hoodies."

No answer came.

Eventually...

His eyelids became heavier.

Slower.

Until finally...

He fell asleep while still holding her hand.

His head rested beside the bed.

His fingers never let go.

Veeransh

From the outside...

It looked as though nothing had changed.

He sat in the armchair near the window.

A thick novel rested in his hands.

Every few minutes...

He calmly turned another page.

Anyone passing by would think he was completely absorbed in the story.

But the truth was different.

His eyes rarely stayed on the book for long.

Every few moments...

He quietly looked toward Aadhya.

Checking if she was comfortable.

If she had moved.

If her breathing remained steady.

When her blanket slipped slightly...

He silently stood up.

Pulled it back over her shoulders.

Then returned to his chair...

As though nothing had happened.

Vikram

Long after midnight...

Everyone expected him to go to sleep.

He didn't.

Instead...

He quietly sat beside Aadhya's bed.

Watching over his daughter.

Sometimes he looked at her.

Sometimes at the old family photograph on the bedside drawer.

His thoughts drifted toward Nandini.

"You would've loved her."

"She's exactly the kind of daughter you always wished for."

He smiled sadly.

Then looked back at Aadhya.

"I'll take care of her."

He whispered so softly that only the silence heard him.

Around 3:30 a.m.

Aadhya stirred.

Her fever had reduced further.

She slowly opened her eyes.

Everything looked blurry.

The room was dimly lit.

She could make out familiar figures.

Aryaveer checking the thermometer.

Rudransh preparing another dose of medicine.

Vihaan placing the warm soup on the side table.

Advik sitting cross-legged on the floor.

Vivaan asleep while holding her hand.

Veeransh pretending to read his book.

Papa sitting quietly beside her.

Everyone...

Was awake.

For her.

Her eyes filled with tears.

In a weak, sleepy voice, she whispered,

"...I'm troubling everyone..."

The room fell silent.

Vikram immediately leaned closer.

He gently brushed a few strands of hair away from her forehead.

His smile was warm.

Filled with nothing but love.

"No."

She looked at him.

Confused.

He softly held her hand.

"You're giving us a chance to love you."

A single tear escaped Aadhya's eye.

She had heard countless words in her life.

Some cruel.

Some hurtful.

Some unforgettable.

But these...

These were the most beautiful words anyone had ever spoken to her.

She closed her eyes again.

This time...

Not because she was exhausted.

But because her heart finally felt safe enough to rest.

The brothers looked at one another.

No one spoke.

There was nothing left to say.

The room already held everything that mattered.

A father.

Six brothers.

One little sister.

And a love so quiet...

That it needed no words at all.

Outside, the first rays of dawn slowly appeared on the horizon.

It had been a sleepless night.

Not one of them complained.

Because every lost hour of sleep was worth it...

If it meant seeing their little sister smile again.

To Be Continued...
