Chapter 31-The Brightest Diwali

"A single diya can light a room. A loving family can light a life."

The morning of Diwali arrived with excitement spread throughout the Rathore Mansion.

Before sunrise, the house was already awake.

Soft devotional songs floated through the halls.

The fragrance of fresh flowers, incense, and sweets filled every corner.

For the first time in many years...

Aadhya woke up with a smile.

Not because she had chores waiting for her...

But because she had a family waiting for her.

A gentle knock came on her bedroom door.

"Come in."

Vivaan entered carrying a neatly wrapped gift box.

"Happy Diwali, Twinny!"

He placed the box in her hands.

"I wasn't supposed to give it before evening..."

"...but I couldn't wait."

Aadhya laughed.

"You never can."

"Nope."

"Open it!"

Inside was a beautiful lavender lehenga with delicate silver embroidery.

She looked at him in surprise.

"It's beautiful..."

Vivaan grinned proudly.

"I chose the colour."

"You'll look like a princess."

She smiled warmly.

"Thank you."

He hugged her tightly before running away.

"Get ready quickly!"

When Aadhya came downstairs an hour later...

She stopped on the staircase.

The entire mansion looked magical.

Hundreds of diyas decorated the hallways.

Crystal chandeliers reflected the warm golden light.

Fresh marigold garlands adorned every doorway.

The rangoli they had made together yesterday welcomed everyone at the entrance.

She smiled.

It was beautiful.

One by one, the family gathered in traditional outfits.

Aryaveer looked elegant in an ivory sherwani.

Rudransh wore a simple cream kurta with a navy jacket.

Veeransh stood quietly in a dark blue kurta, looking as composed as always.

Advik wore a bright maroon kurta and insisted it made him look like a movie star.

Vihaan laughed.

"It makes you look louder."

"I take that as a compliment."

Vivaan twirled dramatically in his little kurta.

Then he looked toward the staircase.

"Twinny!"

Everyone turned.

For a brief moment...

The room became completely silent.

Aadhya slowly walked downstairs wearing the lavender lehenga.

Her hair was neatly braided with tiny white flowers.

She looked both elegant and innocent.

Vikram's eyes immediately became moist.

She looked so much like the daughter he had always dreamed of having.

Aryaveer smiled proudly.

"You look beautiful."

Rudransh nodded.

"Very beautiful."

Vihaan gave her a thumbs-up.

"Perfect."

Advik dramatically pretended to wipe away tears.

"Our Munchkin has grown up."

Vivaan folded his arms proudly.

"I told you she'd look like a princess."

Even Veeransh looked at her for a moment before quietly saying,

"It suits you."

It was only two words.

But coming from him...

They meant a lot.

Aadhya smiled shyly.

"Thank you..."

By evening...

Guests had begun arriving.

Close family friends.

Business associates.

Neighbours.

Everyone admired the decorations.

Many smiled warmly upon meeting Aadhya.

"So this is the Rathores' daughter."

"What a lovely girl."

Vikram introduced her proudly every single time.

"This is my daughter..."

"Aadhya Rathore."

Every time he said those words...

Her heart felt a little warmer.

As sunset approached...

The family gathered in the temple room for the Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja.

The room glowed with countless diyas.

The priest chanted sacred mantras.

Everyone folded their hands in prayer.

Aadhya stood beside Vikram.

For a moment...

She closed her eyes.

She didn't ask for expensive gifts.

Or success.

Or anything extraordinary.

She whispered only one prayer.

"Please..."

"Don't let me lose this family."

After the aarti...

Everyone took blessings from Vikram.

One by one, the brothers touched his feet.

Aadhya hesitated.

She wasn't sure if she should.

Vikram noticed immediately.

Without waiting...

He opened his arms.

She smiled and hugged him instead.

He gently placed his hand on her head.

"Stay happy, beta."

"Always."

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for.

The gifts.

Vivaan practically bounced with excitement.

"I'll go first!"

He handed Aadhya a neatly wrapped package.

Inside was a handmade photo frame.

It held a picture from the shopping trip—

The one where all seven siblings wore matching sunglasses.

At the bottom, he'd written in messy handwriting—

Best Twin Forever ❤️

Aadhya laughed through her tears.

"It's perfect."

Vihaan gave her a sports water bottle with her initials engraved on it.

"So you remember to stay hydrated."

She smiled.

"I will."

Advik handed over a medium-sized gift box.

She opened it.

Inside...

Was an enormous jar filled with different chocolates.

A small note was tied around it.

For Midnight Chocolate Missions.
– From Your Favourite Bhaiya

She burst into laughter.

"You'll never let me forget that, will you?"

"Never."

Rudransh handed her a beautifully wrapped parcel.

Inside were several classic novels, a leather-bound journal, and a premium sketchbook.

"I remembered the books you mentioned."

She looked at him in surprise.

"You remembered?"

"You talk about books the way I talk about medicine."

"I couldn't forget."

She hugged the books to her chest.

"They're wonderful."

Aryaveer came forward next.

His gift was simple.

A fountain pen engraved with elegant silver letters.

Aadhya Rathore

She traced the engraved name with her fingertips.

"My name..."

He smiled gently.

"So you'll always remember where you belong."

She looked at him with grateful eyes.

"Thank you..."

Finally...

Veeransh stepped forward.

Everyone looked at him curiously.

He rarely gave gifts.

He quietly handed Aadhya a small rectangular box.

She opened it carefully.

Inside lay a delicate silver bookmark shaped like a feather.

Engraved on it were four simple words—

Never Stop Turning Pages.

She looked up.

"It's beautiful."

He gave a small nod.

"You always have a book with you."

"I thought..."

"You might like it."

Her smile grew brighter.

"I love it."

Though his expression barely changed...

The faintest smile appeared on Veeransh's face.

The celebrations continued outside.

The sky slowly darkened.

Rows of diyas illuminated the mansion.

The family gathered in the garden with sparklers.

Vivaan ran around excitedly.

"Look, Twinny!"

He waved his sparkler in circles.

Advik immediately copied him.

Vihaan pretended to conduct an orchestra using two sparklers.

Rudransh laughed while making sure everyone stayed safe.

Aryaveer quietly clicked photographs.

Even Veeransh accepted a sparkler from Vivaan.

Though he claimed he wasn't interested...

He never put it down.

Soon...

The fireworks began.

Golden lights burst across the night sky.

Red.

Blue.

Silver.

Green.

Aadhya looked upward in wonder.

The colourful reflections danced in her eyes.

She had seen fireworks before.

But never like this.

Never while standing between people who loved her.

Vivaan suddenly grabbed one of her hands.

Advik grabbed the other.

"Family photo!" he shouted.

Aryaveer quickly set the camera timer.

Everyone gathered together.

Vikram stood in the centre.

His six sons surrounded him.

Aadhya stood right beside him.

The timer beeped.

Three...

Two...

One...

Click.

A perfect family portrait.

Later that night...

After all the guests had left...

The mansion became peaceful once again.

Aadhya stepped onto her balcony.

The last few fireworks still shimmered in the distance.

She looked down at the glowing diyas decorating the mansion.

Then smiled softly.

There had been a time when Diwali meant cleaning the house...

Serving everyone...

Watching others celebrate while she stood in the background.

Today...

Someone had chosen her clothes.

Bought her gifts.

Saved her favourite sweets.

Taken family photographs with her.

Called her their daughter.

Their sister.

Their Twinny.

Their Munchkin.

Their Dove.

She gently whispered into the cool night breeze,

"Happy Diwali... Maa."

"I think..."

"I'm finally home."

Far behind her, standing quietly in the hallway, Vikram heard those words.

He looked toward the family photograph taken just minutes ago.

Then smiled.

Outside, thousands of diyas illuminated the Rathore Mansion.

Inside...

One little girl's heart had finally found its light.
