"Every new beginning carries two things—a little fear and a little hope."
The morning sun gently filtered through the curtains of Aadhya's room.
For a few peaceful moments, she simply lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
Then her eyes wandered around the room.
The bookshelf.
The window seat.
The fresh flowers.
The words on the wall.
Welcome Home, Aadhya.
A small smile appeared on her lips.
Then she remembered.
Today was her first day at her new school.
The smile slowly faded.
A nervous knot settled in her stomach.
"What if they don't accept me?"
"What if everyone stares?"
"What if they think I don't belong?"
She quietly got out of bed.
Downstairs, the dining table was already filled with the familiar morning chatter.
Advik was trying to convince everyone that chocolate-flavoured cereal should count as breakfast.
"It has milk."
"It has cocoa."
"It's practically healthy."
Vihaan looked at him in disbelief.
"That's not how nutrition works."
"It should."
Vivaan burst into laughter.
Aryaveer simply shook his head while reading the newspaper.
Even Veeransh hid a tiny smile behind his coffee mug.
Aadhya entered the dining hall quietly.
"Good morning..."
Everyone looked up.
"Good morning," they greeted together.
Vikram smiled warmly.
"Come, beta."
"Breakfast is getting cold."
She nodded and took her seat beside him.
Unlike the first dinner...
She no longer asked if she could sit.
It was a tiny change.
But everyone noticed.
As Ramu Kaka served breakfast, Aadhya barely touched her food.
Rudransh immediately noticed.
"Nervous?"
She looked up.
"A little."
Vivaan leaned forward.
"A little?"
She sighed softly.
"...A lot."
The table became quiet.
Vikram gently placed his hand over hers.
"What's worrying you?"
She hesitated.
Then admitted honestly,
"They'll know I'm... adopted."
"And?"
She lowered her eyes.
"What if they judge me?"
"What if they think I don't belong there?"
The question lingered in the room.
Aryaveer folded the newspaper and looked at her.
"People will always have opinions."
"What matters..."
"...is whether you believe them."
She listened carefully.
"You earned your place there."
"No one gave it to you."
Rudransh smiled reassuringly.
"And if anyone says something unkind..."
"You tell us."
She immediately shook her head.
"I don't want to trouble anyone."
"You won't be."
"You never will."
Advik grinned.
"Besides..."
He pointed dramatically at Vivaan.
"You have your own personal bodyguard."
Vivaan puffed out his chest proudly.
"Exactly."
"I take my job very seriously."
Aadhya laughed softly.
Vihaan smiled.
"And remember..."
"Friends are made one conversation at a time."
"You don't have to impress everyone on the first day."
She nodded.
"I'll try."
Finally...
Veeransh looked up from his coffee.
Everyone turned toward him, slightly surprised.
He rarely spoke during breakfast.
His voice was calm.
"If someone judges you..."
He met her eyes.
"...it says more about them than it does about you."
The dining table fell silent.
Aadhya looked at him in surprise.
Then smiled gently.
"Thank you... Bhaiya."
Veeransh simply gave a small nod and continued drinking his coffee.
But the nervousness in Aadhya's heart had already become a little lighter.
After breakfast...
The family walked them to the front porch.
The school car was already waiting.
Vivaan adjusted his backpack dramatically.
"Mission First Day."
Advik saluted him.
"Protect the sister."
"I will."
Vihaan laughed.
"Don't scare everyone."
"No promises."
Before Aadhya entered the car, Vikram gently stopped her.
She looked at him.
He carefully tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
"You don't have to prove that you deserve this family."
"You already do."
Her eyes became moist.
She nodded silently.
Aryaveer spoke next.
"Walk with confidence."
Rudransh added,
"And don't skip lunch."
Advik grinned.
"If someone bothers you..."
"I'll embarrass them."
Vihaan laughed.
"Ignore him."
"Have a good day."
Finally...
Vivaan opened the car door.
"Ready?"
Aadhya looked back at everyone.
Six brothers.
One father.
All smiling at her.
She smiled back.
"I think so."
Nearly thirty minutes later...
The car stopped outside St. Xavier's International School.
Aadhya looked through the window.
The campus was enormous.
Students walked in groups.
Some laughed loudly.
Others hurried toward their classrooms.
The moment the Rathore car entered the school gates...
Several students turned to look.
"That's the Rathores."
"I heard they adopted a girl."
"Is that her?"
"She's with Vivaan."
Whispers spread quickly.
Aadhya instinctively lowered her head.
Her fingers tightened around the strap of her school bag.
Vivaan noticed immediately.
Without saying anything...
He stepped closer.
"So..."
He said cheerfully.
"Today's tour guide is me."
She looked at him.
"Hm?"
"You stay beside me."
"I know every classroom."
"And every shortcut."
She smiled nervously.
"What if I get lost?"
"You won't."
He grinned.
"You have me."
As they walked through the corridors...
Students continued whispering.
Some looked curious.
Some smiled politely.
Others simply stared.
Aadhya kept her eyes lowered.
She wasn't used to so much attention.
Every few steps, she wondered if she should move away so Vivaan could walk with his friends instead.
But before she could even think of doing that...
Vivaan matched her pace.
Not too fast.
Not too slow.
Always beside her.
Whenever another student greeted him—
"Morning, Vivaan!"
He smiled and replied.
"Morning."
But he never walked ahead.
Not even once.
He wanted her to know...
She wasn't alone.
They reached the academic block.
Vivaan pointed toward a classroom at the end of the corridor.
"That's mine."
Then he pointed to another room just a little farther ahead.
"And that's yours."
Aadhya looked at the classroom door.
She suddenly felt her heartbeat quicken.
Vivaan noticed.
He smiled reassuringly.
"You'll do great."
"What if I don't?"
"You will."
"How do you know?"
He shrugged confidently.
"Because you're my sister."
The simple sentence made her smile.
The class teacher stood at the doorway.
"You must be Aadhya."
She nodded politely.
"Yes, Ma'am."
"Welcome."
"Your classmates are waiting."
Aadhya took a slow breath.
She looked back once.
Vivaan gave her an encouraging thumbs-up.
"You've got this."
She nodded.
Then slowly turned toward the classroom.
As she stepped through the doorway, countless unfamiliar faces looked in her direction.
For a brief moment...
The old fear returned.
But then she remembered the words she had heard that morning.
"You already belong."
Aadhya straightened her shoulders slightly.
A tiny smile appeared on her face.
And as she entered her new classroom, one hopeful thought quietly crossed her mind—
"Maybe... this place will be different."
