Chapter 18-A Room of Her Own

"Home is the place where you no longer wonder if you're allowed to stay."

The atmosphere at Rathore Mansion had been quieter since the incident with the broken glass.

No one mentioned it again.

Not because they had forgotten.

But because they understood something important.

Aadhya didn't need questions.

She needed time.

She needed patience.

Most of all...

She needed to feel that she belonged.

And the Rathores had been preparing something very special for exactly that reason.

The next afternoon, Vivaan appeared outside the living room with an excitement that was impossible to hide.

"Aadhya!"

She looked up from the novel she had been reading.

"Hm?"

"Come with me!"

"Where?"

"It's a surprise."

She smiled.

"What kind of surprise?"

"If I tell you..."

"It won't be a surprise."

Before she could ask anything else, he gently took her hand.

"Come!"

As they climbed the grand staircase, Aadhya noticed something unusual.

All five elder brothers were already waiting on the first floor.

Aryaveer stood near the corridor with a small smile.

Rudransh folded his arms patiently.

Advik looked like he was struggling not to reveal the surprise.

Vihaan kept glancing toward a closed door.

Even Veeransh was there, standing quietly beside the window.

Vikram joined them a moment later.

Aadhya looked from one face to another.

"What happened?"

Advik grinned.

"We're planning to sell you."

Vivaan gasped dramatically.

"No!"

Aadhya looked horrified for half a second.

Then everyone laughed.

She sighed in relief.

"That wasn't funny."

"It was a little funny," Advik said proudly.

She shook her head, trying not to smile.

Vivaan stopped in front of a large white door at the end of the corridor.

He turned toward her.

"Ready?"

She nodded slowly.

"I think so."

He placed his hand on the doorknob.

Then, with a huge smile...

He pushed the door open.

Aadhya took one step inside.

And stopped.

Completely.

The room before her was unlike anything she had ever imagined.

The walls were painted in soft pastel shades of cream and blush pink.

Golden sunlight streamed through a large window, where a cozy window seat overlooked the gardens.

Fresh white lilies rested in a crystal vase on the table, filling the room with a gentle fragrance.

A tall bookshelf stood against one wall.

Its shelves were already filled with novels, school books, encyclopedias, and sketchbooks.

Beside it was a neatly arranged art corner.

Paints.

Brushes.

Colour pencils.

Sketchbooks.

Everything she had quietly wished for but had never owned.

A beautiful wooden study table stood near the window, complete with a comfortable chair and a small reading lamp.

A soft cream-colored rug covered the floor.

On the neatly made bed sat a large white teddy bear wearing a tiny blue ribbon around its neck.

Next to the bed stood a spacious wardrobe.

Its doors were slightly open, revealing neatly folded dresses, school uniforms, sweaters, shoes, and everyday clothes chosen specially for her.

And above the headboard...

Written in elegant golden letters were the words—

Welcome Home, Aadhya

She didn't move.

She simply stared.

Her lips parted slightly.

Her eyes slowly travelled from one corner of the room to another.

Then she turned back toward everyone waiting outside.

Almost uncertainly, she asked,

"...Whose room is this?"

For one second...

Nobody answered.

Then Vivaan burst into laughter.

"Whose room?"

He walked inside and spread his arms dramatically.

"Yours!"

She blinked.

"...Mine?"

He nodded enthusiastically.

"Your room!"

She looked around once again.

"My..."

Her voice trembled.

"...room?"

Aryaveer stepped forward with a gentle smile.

"No one else will use it."

"It's yours."

"Only yours."

Those three words echoed inside her heart.

Only yours.

She had never owned anything that belonged only to her.

Not a cupboard.

Not a bed.

Not even a corner.

Slowly...

Almost afraid that the room might disappear if she moved too quickly...

She walked inside.

Her fingers brushed lightly against the bookshelf.

She touched the study table.

The soft curtains.

The teddy bear.

Everything felt real.

Yet impossible.

Rudransh smiled warmly.

"We weren't sure which books you'd like."

"So..."

He pointed toward the empty shelves at the bottom.

"We left some space."

"You can fill them with your favourites."

Vihaan grinned.

"And if you don't know what to read..."

"I'll recommend terrible adventure books."

"They're not terrible," Advik protested.

"They're masterpieces."

"They're confusing."

"They're artistic."

Aadhya laughed softly as the two continued arguing.

Vikram watched her quietly.

Every expression on her face made all the planning worthwhile.

For weeks...

The family had worked together.

Vivaan had insisted on the teddy bear.

Vihaan had chosen the window seat.

Advik had secretly picked colourful cushions because he said the room needed "more happiness."

Rudransh had filled the first-aid drawer.

Aryaveer had selected the study table and bookshelves.

Even Veeransh...

Though he had never admitted it...

Had quietly asked the interior designer to make sure the room had plenty of natural light because...

"People read better near windows."

No one mentioned it.

But everyone knew.

Near the bedroom door rested one small cloth bag.

The same faded bag Aadhya had carried to the orphanage.

The same bag she had brought to the mansion.

She slowly picked it up.

Walked toward the bed.

And gently placed it on top.

The room fell silent.

No one interrupted her.

She carefully untied the knot.

Inside were only a few belongings.

A worn-out novel.

Two neatly folded dresses.

A small notebook.

A pencil.

And...

An old family photograph.

She held it carefully.

For a long moment...

She simply looked at it.

The picture showed a much younger Aadhya standing beside Mahesh, Sunita, and Aarush.

A family that had once been her whole world.

The photograph carried memories.

Some happy.

Many painful.

She didn't cry.

She didn't smile.

She only whispered inside her heart—

"Thank you for giving me life..."

"But not every family is forever."

Then...

With slow, steady hands...

She opened the drawer beside her bed.

She placed the photograph inside.

Not because she wanted to erase her past.

Not because she had forgotten where she came from.

But because...

She was finally making space for a new beginning.

She gently closed the drawer.

Turning around, she looked at the room once more.

The books.

The flowers.

The teddy bear.

The sunlight.

The study table.

The wardrobe.

The words on the wall.

Welcome Home, Aadhya.

Her vision blurred.

Tears quietly filled her eyes.

She looked around again, almost unable to believe it.

Then, in a trembling whisper barely louder than the breeze, she said,

"Someone..."

Her voice broke.

"...made a room..."

A tear rolled down her cheek.

"...just for me."

The words shattered every heart standing at the doorway.

Vivaan's eyes immediately became watery.

Vihaan quietly looked away.

Advik rubbed the back of his neck, pretending he wasn't emotional.

Rudransh smiled through moist eyes.

Aryaveer's chest tightened.

Even Veeransh lowered his gaze.

Vikram could no longer hide the tears in his own eyes.

Aadhya slowly sat on the edge of the bed.

She placed one hand on the soft blanket beneath her.

For the first time in her life...

She wasn't wondering where she would sleep.

She wasn't wondering whether she was allowed to touch something.

She wasn't wondering if someone would ask her to leave.

This room...

Belonged to her.

Completely.

And as silent tears rolled down her cheeks...

They were not tears of abandonment.

Not tears of fear.

Not tears of loneliness.

They were the tears of a little girl who had finally been given something she had never dared to dream of—

A place in the world that she could finally call...

her own.

Outside the room, the six brothers and their father exchanged quiet smiles.

No one spoke.

Because some moments were too precious for words.

They simply stood there...

Watching their daughter.

Watching their sister.

Finally find her place.
