Chapter 13-Welcome Home

"Sometimes, one word can heal wounds that years of silence never could."

The enormous iron gates slowly closed behind them.

For the first time...

Aadhya stood inside Rathore Mansion.

The marble pathway stretched ahead, lined with colorful flowers and elegant fountains. Birds chirped from the trees, and the cool evening breeze carried the fragrance of fresh jasmine.

Everything looked unreal.

Like one of the fairy tales she used to read to the children at the orphanage.

She clutched the scrapbook against her chest a little tighter.

"This... is really my home now?"

The thought felt too unbelievable to accept.

As Vikram stepped inside the grand entrance, the massive wooden doors opened.

Nearly twenty members of the household staff stood in two neat rows.

Everyone smiled warmly.

The oldest among them, Ramu Kaka, folded his hands respectfully.

"Welcome home, Saab."

Vikram smiled.

"Thank you, Ramu."

Then he gently placed his hand on Aadhya's shoulder.

"This is Aadhya."

There wasn't even a second of hesitation.

Ramu Kaka smiled affectionately.

"Welcome home, bitiya."

One after another...

The staff greeted her.

"Namaste, bitiya."

"Welcome."

"We're so happy you're here."

Unlike the Sharma house...

No one looked at her with annoyance.

No one questioned why she was there.

No one made her feel like a burden.

The warmth in their voices confused her.

She instinctively stepped back.

"...N-Namaste."

She bowed politely to everyone.

Vivaan leaned closer and whispered with a grin,

"They already like you."

Aadhya looked at him nervously.

"But..."

"I haven't even done anything."

Vihaan laughed.

"You don't have to."

Advik added dramatically,

"You survived this family."

"That's already impressive."

Everyone chuckled.

Even Aadhya smiled a little.

Ramu Kaka looked at Vikram.

"Saab, should we bring some refreshments?"

Before Vikram could answer, Aadhya immediately spoke.

"I-I can help in the kitchen."

The entire hall fell silent.

Even the staff exchanged surprised glances.

Vikram looked at her gently.

"Why would you help?"

She blinked.

"Because..."

She looked genuinely confused.

"...guests should help."

Vivaan frowned.

"Guest?"

Advik quietly muttered,

"Uh-oh..."

Aryaveer and Rudransh exchanged knowing looks.

They had expected moments like this.

Vikram smiled patiently.

"Aadhya."

She looked up.

"You aren't our guest."

"This is your home."

"And nobody here expects you to earn your place."

She lowered her eyes.

Those words were so unfamiliar...

She didn't know how to respond.

Ramu Kaka smiled kindly.

"Bitiya..."

"Today, you're only allowed to relax."

Aadhya quickly shook her head.

"No, Kaka..."

"I don't mind working."

"It's alright."

"I know how to cook."

"I can clean too."

"I wake up early."

"I canβ€”"

She stopped speaking.

Because everyone was looking at her with expressions she couldn't understand.

Not pity.

Not anger.

Just...

Sadness.

Vihaan quietly looked away.

Advik's smile disappeared.

Vivaan clenched his little fists.

Rudransh sighed softly.

Even Veeransh, who had been standing silently near the staircase, looked at her for a long moment before lowering his eyes.

None of them could imagine a fifteen-year-old introducing herself by listing household chores.

Trying to ease the atmosphere, Vikram gently changed the topic.

"You must be tired."

"Come inside."

Aadhya nodded obediently.

As she stepped into the mansion...

Her breath caught.

The entrance hall was breathtaking.

A sparkling crystal chandelier hung from the high ceiling.

Elegant paintings decorated the walls.

Fresh flowers filled crystal vases.

A magnificent staircase curved gracefully towards the first floor.

The polished marble floor reflected the warm golden lights above.

She had never seen anything like it.

"This is..."

She whispered.

"...beautiful."

Vivaan smiled proudly.

"Wait until you see the library."

"You'll never come out."

Advik laughed.

"He's right."

"You'll probably adopt the books before you adopt us."

Everyone laughed.

Even Aadhya.

For the first time...

The laughter didn't make her feel left out.

As they walked further inside, a family portrait caught Aadhya's attention.

She stopped.

In the photograph stood Vikram and six boys of different ages.

At the center...

A beautiful woman smiled brightly.

Her eyes were gentle.

Her smile warm.

She somehow made the entire picture feel alive.

Aadhya instinctively folded her hands before the photograph.

"Namaste..."

She whispered.

Vikram noticed.

"That's..."

He looked at the portrait with quiet affection.

"...my wife."

"Our mother."

"Nandini."

Aadhya looked at the photograph again.

She smiled softly.

"She has a very kind smile."

No one spoke.

Because every person in that room silently agreed.

At that moment, one of the staff members approached.

"Sir..."

"We've prepared tea."

Aadhya immediately stepped aside and bowed politely.

"Thank you, Sir."

The words escaped naturally.

The room became quiet once again.

Vikram looked at her.

Then he smiled.

Not because she had made a mistake.

But because he understood why she had.

He slowly walked towards her.

She looked up nervously.

"Did I say something wrong?"

"No, beta."

His voice was gentle.

Warm.

Patient.

He looked directly into her eyes.

"You don't have to call me 'Sir.'"

She blinked.

"I... don't?"

He smiled.

"No."

A long pause followed.

Then, with all the love a father could hold in a single sentence, he said,

"You'll call me..."

"...Papa."

The world seemed to stop.

Papa.

The word echoed inside her heart.

She hadn't spoken it with love in years.

The last time she had used it...

She had been left sitting alone on a bench outside an orphanage.

After that day...

The word had only brought pain.

Her lips trembled.

She lowered her eyes.

Her fingers tightened around the scrapbook in her hands.

Everyone waited patiently.

No one hurried her.

No one expected an immediate answer.

Aadhya swallowed hard.

Her voice shook.

"P..."

She stopped.

Closed her eyes.

Took a trembling breath.

Then looked at Vikram again.

"...Papa."

The word was barely above a whisper.

But it reached every corner of the mansion.

For a moment...

No one moved.

Vikram's eyes glistened.

He had imagined this moment many times.

Yet nothing had prepared him for the emotions that one hesitant word would awaken.

His vision blurred.

A tear escaped despite his efforts to stop it.

He gently cupped Aadhya's head.

"That's my girl."

Aadhya's own tears rolled freely now.

Not tears of abandonment.

Not tears of loneliness.

But tears born from hearing a father accept her...

Without conditions.

Without comparisons.

Without hesitation.

Around them...

Aryaveer quietly smiled.

Rudransh discreetly wiped the corner of his eye.

Vihaan grinned proudly.

Advik looked suspiciously at the ceiling.

"I think there's something in my eye."

Vivaan beamed with the biggest smile anyone had ever seen.

Only Veeransh stood silently.

His expression remained calm.

Yet when he looked at the photograph of his mother...

For the briefest moment...

He thought he could almost hear her gentle voice saying,

"Welcome home, little one."

And for the very first time...

The mansion didn't feel quite as empty as it had the day before.
